BIMM has been named The Great Escape’s lead educational partner.
The partnership will see BIMM host a series of events, including an official BIMM live showcase, a series of educational BIMM Student Sessions at the Boscoe Theatre on the site of the Spiegeltent and a student-organised Alternative Escape event alongside the rest of The Great Escape’s trade convention programme.
The strengthened link between BIMM and The Great Escape follows the BIMM Student Sessions at last year’s festival, which saw Tony Wadsworth, chairman of the BPI, in conversation with Seymour Stein of Sire Records.
Tony Wadsworth, chairman of the BPI said: “BIMM and The Great Escape are two of Brighton’s greatest home grown ideas! It’s a huge opportunity for BIMM students to be a part of this industry event and to get closer to the very people who do this stuff for a living. In turn, I’m sure the industry delegates will be impressed and, hopefully, challenged by the questions they get from students”
Vaseema Hamilton, principal of BIMM London, Brighton and Bristol said: “BIMM and The Great Escape share a common goal – to promote opportunities in music, encourage entrepreneurship and to motivate young people to think big and connect to the music industry. This is an important partnership for us and we’re delighted to become the lead educational partner on the festival’s 10th anniversary.”
Kat Morris, director of The Great Escape, said: “We are thrilled to announce a partnership between The Great Escape and the British & Irish Modern Music Institute (BIMM). With the UK as our lead international focus for 2015, it makes perfect sense for us to work more closely with BIMM, an institution renowned for educating smart, hungry students and integrating them into the music business. Our collaboration will ensure there is an influx of driven young people into the thriving music industry.”
The Great Escape 2015 takes place in Brighton, May 14-16.
