Singer songwriter Jacob Whitesides has entered into a global partnership with BMG to launch his Double U record label.
Whitesides will act as CEO of Double U, with label operations to be dealt with by BMG and management company Manncom Creative.
The new label will release original material by Whitesides, with the intention of signing other developing artists in the future.
Whitesides currently has 1.6 million Twitter followers, over 1.3m Facebook likes, 900,000 Instagram fans, over 750,000 Vine subscribers and over 12m views on YouTube.
“Jacob’s songwriting and performing is far beyond his years, but one of the main differentiators for us is what a superb entrepreneur he is,” said Jon Cohen, EVP of recorded music at BMG Chrysalis US.
Added Fred Casimir, BMG EVP continental Europe: “Jacob is a great example of the power of social media to allow artists to reach out to literally millions of fans. We are delighted to have the opportunity to expand upon what he has already created and work with him to make his vision of success happen internationally.”
Commenting on the deal. Whitesides added: “It’s such an honour to be partnering with BMG to help me stay true to myself. The only reason I have the option to choose the people I get to do this with is my fans and I couldn’t be more excited about this next chapter. As CEO of my own label my biggest promise is that I will continue to keep as little as possible standing between my fans and me. Everything I do, I do for them and BMG has given me the freedom to be myself and still give me the muscle and infrastructure I need.”
