Culture secretary defends £150,000 T In The Park grant

Culture secretary Fiona Hyslop has appeared before a Holyrood committee in the Scottish parliament to explain why T In The Park secured a £150,000 government grant.

A “cronyism” row broke out earlier this year after it emerged DF Concerts’ project manager Jennifer Dempsie set up a meeting between the promoter’s CEO, Geoff Ellis, and culture secretary Fiona Hyslop, which led to Hyslop signing off the “one-off grant funding support” for the event’s relocation to Strathallan Castle.

Kasabian, The Libertines, Avicii and Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds headlined this year’s festival from July 10-12.

MSP’s have queried why the event needed taxpayer funds, but Hyslop insisted funding was appropriate, transparent and in line with amounts given to other events, reports the BBC.
