UEFA has signed global music superstar David Guetta to produce the official song of Euro 2016.
The track will be released ahead of the tournament in France, while the DJ (pictured) will perform at the opening ceremony at Stade de France before the match in June 2016. Guetta’s role also involves creating the musical identity for the entire tournament, which includes everything from in-stadia audio to global broadcast sequences.
UEFA president Michel Platini said: “We wanted to work with David Guetta because of his huge musical influence, not only in France but all over the world. Electronic dance music is synonymous with both France and David, and we want our music for the tournament to be enjoyed by both football and non-football fans alike. David is the very best artist to reflect the spirit of this tournament.”
Guetta will also front a digital fan campaign to be launched later this year. The French DJ said: “It is incredibly exciting not only to be part of this huge football tournament in my home country, but to be working with UEFA on a number of activities for the fans that we have been developing together over the last 12 months.
“Music and football go hand in hand when it comes to celebration and enjoyment and I want to help to make this Euro the biggest and most memorable yet. We want the fans to be at the very heart of everything that we do.”
