Disney Music Group has secured its first long-term artist development partnership in the UK with London based, 21-year-old singer-songwriter and musician Alex Maxwell, via its Hollywood Records imprint.
As part of the deal, Maxwell will be managed by the Disney music team in the UK on a worldwide basis, with the deal also incorporating records, publishing and touring.
Disney Music Group currently has partnerships with Universal for marketing and distribution and Warner/Chappell for publishing.
Maxwell began song-writing aged 13 and recently debuted ten original songs during a set of Abbey Road acoustic sessions before agreeing the artist development deal with Disney.
“We’re honoured to be working with Alex, a very talented artist with a unique voice both as a vocalist and songwriter,” Disney Music Group MD for EMEA, Ritch Sibthorpe. “Alex is our first signing to Hollywood Records UK, marking a renewed investment in local talent and artist development.”
A series of EPs is planned for 2015 with the first arriving in April. New song, Foolish Ways, will be made available this month with a debut album scheduled for 2016, to be written and produced in the UK.
“As we witnessed last year, the UK remains a global music capital producing artists that dominate the charts worldwide,” said Sibthorpe. “We’re excited to be working with Alex Maxwell here in London during one of the richest periods in history for UK talent. Our priority is to ensure that Alex has the best team in place to continue her journey as an artist.”
