Madison Square Garden owner eyes move for Olympia exhibition centre

The Madison Square Garden Company (MSGC) is reportedly planning to buy the Olympia exhibition centre in London with the aim of turning it into a music arena to rival The O2.

New York-based MSGC, which owns venues such as Madison Square Garden and Radio City Music Hall, Chicago Forum and LA’s The Forum, as well as sports teams such as the New York Knicks, is favourite to seal a £300 million deal for the London site, reports The Sunday Times.

The publication says MSGC sees the potential in the London site being able to rival AEG’s The O2 and The SSE Arena, Wembley, in the capital.

Olympia is being auctioned by property firm Capital & Counties and MSGC is believed to be leading a field of six bidders.
