Play It Again Sam has signed a global recordings deal (excluding Australia and new Zealand) with singer/songwriter Lisa Mitchell.
Mitchell, who has already enjoyed critical and commercial success in her native Australia, will release and as-yet untitled forthcoming album through Play It Again Sam and the [PIAS] worldwide network later this year.
She will continue to release her records through Parlophone in Australia and New Zealand.
Born in Canterbury, Kent, Mitchell’s family emigrated to Australia as a child. Now 24, she first came to national prominence after appearing on Australian Idol aged 16 in 2006. Despite an early exit from the show has gone on to forge a successful solo career.
Her debut EP, Said One To The Other, released in 2007, topped the iTunes chart in Australia and led to a deal with London-based music publisher Little Victories, who were affiliated with Sony/ATV Music Publishing. She has recently re-signed a global music publishing deal with Sony/ATV Australia.
Debut LP Wonder, recorded in London in 2008, debuted in the Top 10 in the Australian charts. Second album Bless This Mess also went Top 10 in Australia. Mitchell has been nominated for five ARIA music awards and one APRA award over the course of her career.
Last year she played two sold-out London shows and released single Wah Ha, with radio support from the likes of Lauren Laverne and Jo Whiley.
Cathy Oates, Lisa’s manager, said: “I feel we have found the right international home for Lisa as the team at Play It Again Sam are just as excited about the possibilities of this album as I am and we already feel a great level of support”.
Peter Thompson, managing director of Play It Again Sam, said: “We are delighted to welcome Lisa to Play it Again Sam. As big fans of her work we think she is a unique songwriter and performer. Her new album is sounding amazing and we feel Lisa has the potential to reach an international audience.
